Do you feel like you’re stuck in the same loop and you just don’t know your way out? Does it feel like you’re only wasting time and you just can’t wait for every day to be over?
Every single day seems so long and so empty. The nights seem to last forever.
Days are passing by and you just feel like you’re bored and that your life has no meaning. Also, it seems like you can’t follow through with anything without losing interest; you just keep hopping from one thing to the other and you’re never there at the finish line. Your quest of finding something to sweep you off your feet seems unrealistic and unattainable.
Boredom is not just the act of finding nothing to do; it’s a gruesome feeling that makes us feel lonely. We don’t feel alive when we’re bored; we feel like we’re merely here to let time pass us by.
What would you do if everything is boring?
1- Time To Embrace Change
If we were to draw boredom on a piece of paper, it would look like a straight endless line. Boredom is static; boredom is monotonous.
This means that it’s about time to make this line move up and down; it’s definitely time to draw more lines and to draw other shapes as well. It’s time to embrace change.
Truth is, change bothers us and it takes us out of our comfort zone. This is why it’s easier for us to reject change.
As a reaction, we end up feeling bored. This boredom is like a mask that covers our feelings of shame for rejecting this change.
If you don’t like something, change it. If change comes knocking on your doors, embrace it! Change is an inevitable part of life and without it, we lose interest in everything.
If you don’t like your job, apply for a new one. If you don’t like your company, it’s time to look for a new one. If you don’t like where you are in life, then move forward.
2- Time To Feel Inspired
A valid reason for feeling bored in life is that you don’t have something that inspires you. You’re bored because you don’t have a creative outlet; you don’t have a hobby that would fuel you with passion every now and then.
If you don’t have a hobby, then a huge chunk of your time is wasted on meaningless things that you would do just to fill in the blanks. Having a hobby would fill your day with activities to look forward to.
There’s nothing wrong with watching Netflix and falling in love with movie characters, just as long as you don’t make your life revolve around it. Having a hobby would make you less prone to binging on Netflix because you would be too busy working on your skills and fueling your passion.
It’s time to find your muse.
3- Time To Face The Music
Have you ever considered that you might be feeling something else instead of boredom? What are your underlying reasons behind this facade of boredom? Maybe you call this feeling boredom because you don’t know how else to describe it.
Sometimes, sadness can be masked as boredom. These feelings can also be feelings of emptiness, unworthiness, and gloominess.
This could be especially true if you went through a bad experience and this is your way of dealing with things. You could be numbing your feeling of sadness with this boredom.
Did you lose something or someone and it made you feel this way? Maybe you dedicated a huge part of your life to this someone or something and now that it’s gone, your day seems empty and boring.
4- Time To Find Purpose
What’s your purpose in life? What do you want for yourself? How do you picture your life five years from now?
Not having a purpose would make your life feel meaningless; you have nothing to aspire for!
Is your purpose in life to start a family of your own and give your child the love you never had? Is your purpose in life to become the CEO of your own company?
Is your purpose in life to retire before the age of 35? Do you aspire to travel more and discover places all over the world?
What are you living for?
5- Time To Move Your Body
Did you know that boredom physically means that you have less dopamine in your brain? In case you didn’t know, dopamine is the “happy” chemical of your brain.
One guaranteed way for hacking into your happy hormones is working out. In fact, moving the body has been scientifically proven to make you happier.
Not only that, but working out improves your shape, tones your body, and makes you healthier overall; it’s the full package!
6- Time To Have Meaningful Relationships
Sometimes we feel bored because our relationships seem meaningless. And we’re not just talking about romantic relationships; this also applies to every relationship you have. Hanging out with bad company will make you feel bored; bad company drains your energy and leaves you feeling high and dry.
Meaningful relationships mean fruitful conversations, quality time, and mutual feelings of love and respect. Relationships make us feel fulfilled and content. The lack of positive influence and meaningfulness would make us feel numb.
7- Time To Ask For Help
If all else fails and if you feel like you’re unable to do anything because the feeling of boredom is overwhelming, it’s time to seek professional help. Sometimes, boredom can be another face to depression. It means that you have lost meaning in life and you can’t do anything to change your situation.
A professional therapist would help you find meaning in life and they would help you get rid of that feeling of emptiness.
