You don’t have to isolate yourself and live on a mountain top in order to become a better person. And you definitely don’t have to help a squirrel cross the street to become a better version of yourself.
Becoming a better person can be achieved by doing very little things that you can do every day. Becoming a better person means that you constantly work on improving yourself.
Becoming a better person is becoming this lovely version of yourself that lights up every room it enters. It could range from smiling to strangers, giving genuine compliments, and spreading love, not gossip.
Becoming a better person means that you don’t hurt other people intentionally and that you try to do your best in every situation. It also means that you have to embrace change; the change you need to do in order to break harmful habits and embrace new ones. Creating positive habits is essential to your quest in becoming a better person.
Below are habits you can adopt to become a better person inside and out.
1- Practice Forgiveness
I believe that unforgiveness is always accompanied by anger and the urge to revenge. How will you ever become a better person if you’re walking around with all that grudge? Grudge is heavy and it taints your mind and soul. You will never be able to unleash the good in your soul if you can’t let go of the hurt and blame.
The first thing you need to do is start by forgiving yourself; don’t expect to forgive anyone if you’re unable to forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for your own mistakes and remind yourself that “to err is human”.
When you let go of the resentment, you make room for good things to come. You give your mind and heart a chance to heal and let go of the hurt. You make room for prosperity and abundance; you make room to grow as a better person.
2- Practice Empathy
Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and be able to recognize their feelings. Empathy makes you understand why someone did what they did! It makes you feel with them.
Sometimes all we need is someone to be able to feel what we feel and to understand where we come from; it makes the world less lonely! Being able to make someone feel this way is a blessing that makes you genuinely better.
3- Know Your Purpose
Working towards attaining a specific goal motivates us and this motivation triggers positive energy. It creates momentum that we’re actually doing something good; it gives meaning to our journey here on earth and makes us dedicate our efforts to it.
Having a purpose means you don’t have to fill the emptiness by engaging in harmful behaviors such as gossiping about people. Having a purpose means that you realize your goals and it consequently elevates your ideology and makes you aim for greater things!
What’s YOUR purpose in life? What are your dreams? Do you have goals and constantly work to achieve them?
4- Embrace Honesty
Honesty is not merely the act of abstaining from telling lies. Honesty is admitting that you made a mistake and apologizing for it. Honestly is when you do your job even though your boss is not watching.
Honesty is when you genuinely like who you hang out with. Honesty is when you’re faithful to your partner. Honesty is when you say what you mean and mean what you say!
Honesty is the foundation of every relationship and without it, the relationship is doomed to fail. It’s mainly because honesty builds trust and without trusting someone you can never have a solid relationship with them.
5- Change Your Mornings
Adopting a morning routine is important because it makes you start off your day with intention and it sets the moods for the rest of your day.
Waking up when it’s 2 pm in the afternoon is the worst thing you can do to yourself. Instead, imagine waking up early and being able to feel like you’ve accomplished something that you don’t because you’re usually sleeping at that time! It can be as small as making your bed! This will give you momentum and a sense of accomplishment that you will carry with you for the rest of the day!
6- Attitude For Gratitude
Gratitude is being thankful for the things you have- even when you don’t have that much. Gratitude is the energy you send out to the universe and it’s fueled by the words you utter and actions you take.
Abstain from nagging about everything and everyone. Abstain from always seeing the worst of every situation. Abstain from contemplating the empty half of the cup.
Every book that’s been written on the energy of gratitude tells you that the universe is listening all the time and it’s responsive to your energy! If you practice gratitude, it will send more gratitude your way.
However, if you keep nagging, it will give you more to nag about. The universe simply listens to your energy and reflects it in your life events.
Be mindful of your attitude! Realize your blessings and be grateful for the little you have.
7- Nourish Your Body
Nourishing your body means that you have to take care of your body and treat it like it’s a temple.
Be mindful of what you eat because what you eat affects your mind and body. Did you know that research has proven that unhealthy food can lead to poor mental health? Junk food can actually aggravate symptoms of depression and can increase anxiety.
The worst thing anyone can ever do is what they do when they are consumed by anxiety. Too much anxiety can put us in survival mode and this mode can turn us into wild beasts that would do anything to survive.
